Friday, July 3. 2009Vick Could Play
Michael Vick could play professional football this season, but it won't be in the NFL. He could possibly play in the state of Florida. The new UFL is starting this season and Michael Vick could help the league gain some needed exposure. The first season for the league that has four teams will play a couple of months. The games will be on Thursday, Friday and it could mean some of the NFL fans watching football while they wait for the games on Sunday and Monday.
This would also give Vick a chance to get into game shape. He'll be able to get back to playing and working out on the football field. The Orlando franchise will get some exposure should it be announced that he is in fact going to play. That will help Vick and the league. The NFL will also benefit because he'll be able to get into shape and then be ready to come back next season. If the UFL and NFL are smart they should use this league as a rehab or proving ground for players that the NFL would like to see come back. They could use the UFL as a stop for some players so they can evaluate and see grow in game type situations. Some would say the competition isn't the same and it isn't. But for some teams that will need some players late in the season it would make a good tool for the NFL to use. Since the UFL season ends around Thanksgiving. The UFL and NFL would do well to keep tabs on one another and promote the sport of football which has the biggest following in the United States. But will see a ton of players no longer given a opportunity to play. Four teams isn't a lot of spots to go around. But starting small and gaining some exposure. The NFL shouldn't discount the league since it isn't competing against them. Football is one sport with no minor league system. Only Canada offers professional football and how much exposure do they get in this country? 0 . The need for the UFL to smartly and effectively build the league and it's fan base relies heavily on the caliber of product they put on the field. No gimmicks and tricks are required. But the need for some household players who might need a year or two off from the NFL could be moved to the UFL. All these moves should be in the interest of promoting football. John Washington is also on the roster. Denzel's son has another opportunity to get some needed experience. But with a father like Denzel at the game exposure will be created. I hope this league builds into a enjoyable product that features the best that many of those who can't make NFL rosters have left to give. I want to believe the NFL will be smart enough to use it to there advantage but remaining apart from the operation of the league. The arena football while entertaining isn't pro football. It isn't college football. Hell it is just a 7 on 7 that features Quarterbacks and receivers. Smart marketing, great sponsors, and most importantly a mix of players that the NFL just can't hold on rosters and players who just need time away to know how great it is to play in the NFL. One man can't make this league but a Michael Vick will sure draw a fan base in Orlando. He'll probably see the animal rights activists at all the stadiums and events but He'll just have to get use to it. For me Michael did the time. It's over. Now move on. Get back to rumbling, scrambling and making plays on the field. He can bring a level of excitement to the game. One man moving in and others should follow. Who knows maybe Brett Favre could be a player in the UFL. But I doubt it. Those players who get cut or end up losing their place in the NFL will start to talk about the UFL. The UFL will certainly start gaining some relationships with agents and players. Hopefully it's a nice start to this league this season. I'm looking forward to see Vick play once again. Sunday, June 28. 2009Brazil Too Much For US
The USA haven't been able to win consistently ever. They've never been in the top countries when it comes to Soccer. But after the win against Spain the USA had an opportunity like never before, win a tournament. But they had to face the best team ever in soccer Brazil.
The first half the US did everything right. They took advantage, they defended well, got all the breaks and led 2-0. But everyone knows what Brazil is capable. Immediately after halftime Fabrico scores. He started an attack that didn't stop until Brazil took over the game 3-2 with a few minutes left for the United States to come back. Brazil had earned the victory. Don't believe the US layed down. Brazil earned the win. What this means could be nothing if the United States continues it's same pattern. Maybe it's a turn in the level of consistency they'll have in the future. Only the future games will tell. But having played so hard to make it to the final the United States found out what they've got to do to be able to stay consistent and play with Brazil. First they've got to be able to play the entire match the same. This has got to do with two areas the United States must shore up in the future. The tank was empty and the players performance showed it. They've got to be in shape to play these type of teams. Secondly the bench players are far behind the starters. After the substitutions for the United States the team looked as if they've never played together. The US couldn't keep the ball in the attacking end. In the future the US will have to prepare for longer tougher matches with no early exits from tournaments. This will allow everyone to start understanding what they've got to do in each game. The bench will also have to rotate in and play. You can't learn this against each other in practice. The only place the US will become better is playing with one another against other opponents. It is clear that the coaches and players have to figure out what they need to do when leading a game 2-0. They've got to get a better strategy then kick the ball to the other team. But the goal at the start of the half was a killer and the United States couldn't keep up with Brazil. This tournament will be remembered as a point where the US became better or it will mark a point in US soccer where they had hoped to start changing into one of the teams to watch out for. In the matches leading up to the World Cup the United States will see just where they can climb to or fall back to. If the US could win on a consistent basis and get a fan base which they would should they start winning. It could increase the popularity of Soccer in the US. But for me I'll always call this game soccer and futbol is spelled like this: football. It will always be my first sport a sport I love. But I'm red white and blue and will always be a fan of US soccer. Thursday, June 25. 2009USA Soccer
When you talk about winning you'd always be referring to the women's team. But the men shocked the world with a 2-0 win over number 1 Spain. United States Men's Soccer has now got to follow that win up with another against Brazil. Brazil winner over South Africa to set up a finals match on Sunday.
USA soccer and everyone around will now want to see consistency not just luck but consistency winning against all the other Nations. Soccer is a sport that probably is viewed by more people then any other. But here in the US Football, Basketball, Baseball might be still ahead. But with the USA winning against the upper eschelon teams it could cause more people to tune in and watch. Of course like any television people want to see winners. Do be too surprised if you start seeing a lot of stars take in USA Men's soccer now that they seem to be joining the world's best. The World Loses a King
He was known as the king of Pop, Michael Jackson has passed away. It was always in the back of my mind that the Jackson 5 would do a concert with the entire family. Now the true star has passed away.
When I was in Japan during my service in the Marines, Michael Jackson had a big influence on the entire country. The clothes, the way people danced everything. Japan will mourn the pop star unlike the United States. He was the first artist to do a video. He was a performer and a great talent. But he also did and said a lot of things that most people thought was weird. Also one of Charlies original Angels Farrah Fawcett has also passed away. Sunday, June 14. 2009Internet Dating Sites
For anyone who needs to know how these sites work it's about signing up. Every dating site uses techniques to get people to pay a monthly fee. This fee is for you to gain access to the person you think your talking to. Yes that's right I said the person you think your talking to.
I'm unlike most people. I'm not willing to spend money so a site can give me access to someone who I can write over the internet. But that's the business they've created and make no mistake all these services are created for the sole purpose of making money. Everyone of the online services use the same techniques. Free. It's free to put yourself and your information on the site. Take E. Harmony everyone has heard of them. You know I've met someone and then they got married. Matching your traits and then using those to combine with others to find the best matches. But at e harmony you have to pay in order to see the photos. That's right you just get to see a bunch of words and names no pictures unless you pay. A lot of possibilities are tempting for people who are lonely. But how many of these people are actual people. I'll explain more later. At match. com they do it a bit differently. They have a direct link to chemistry. Which supplies another system. But they allow you to view the pictures along with there bios and preferences. But they don't allow any communication with that person. They give you a lot of information like whose interested in you, and a page full of beautiful possibilities. But you've got to pay in order to continue further then a wink. Yahoo personals operates the same as the first two. But in this one I think they are more created possibilities to choose from. I've been looking at mine for almost 2 years. I've yet to connect. The reason to e-mail the person you need to sign up. My space is so huge you don't usually look through all the possibilities although this might be the only way you can talk to someone. But how likely is it for you to search around your area find someone and then e-mail them and they e-mail you back. But it's something you can do for free. That's probably my only option. Where I have the problem with most of these websites is it's a little misleading. Maybe it's a little stronger let's call it fraud. At yahoo a female e-mailed me saying she knew me and sent a few pictures one more revealing then the other but nothing nude. After a while I wrote back and said that I noticed her picture on Yahoo but she listed herself on there 3 times with 3 different names and bios. What I take away from this and like to warn others is be careful about who your looking at. I believe a lot of the matches are legit. But some of them are tools. Tools used by the companies maybe these are actual people who dedicate themselves to making money for each person they sign up. After they get someone to sign up get ready for the dump, or the change in interest. Worse yet is someone else using pics, creating bios all being created to your liking to get you to pay. I know many of the people who you view could all be true. But once you sign up how hard is it to get out of paying. It could be like some of the stories I've heard about AOL taking the free period signing up and leaving your banking info and then not being able to stop it. Then having to change your entire banking account to another to close the one they've been stealing from. A similar situation happens at some gyms. Where they get a sign up fee and hook you into signing paperwork and then you can't cancel it. Be careful finding someone shouldn't have to cost you. But if you've signed up and are satisfied by that then by all means good luck. For me I might just have to continue looking at these websites because paying money to someone just to be able to e-mail someone isn't something I want to spend my money for. So it's search my space put in a distance from where I live and look at the pictures and view the bios. Funnything about all of this is how much people lie. they say the don't drink or smoke but all of there pictures are of them doing exactly what they say they don't do. Kind of dumb if you ask me. Maybe that's why I only have one friend on my space. Luke Walton a new nicknameSaturday, June 13. 2009Are you ready for some Football
This season marks the first season we will not hear John Madden. Kornheiser is history on monday night. But it's another season of hype on the NFL draft. But what counts is the play on the field.
It all started before the NFL draft when teams fired coaches, hired new ones. They extended some contracts in the organization and terminated some. They gathered together to poke, prod, and examine all the draftees. They selected players and signed free agents. They'll all come to camp at some point, go through rituals. Head coaches will set down with the assistants and hash out all the details that go into preparing a team for an upcoming season. The new staffs and new head coaches will implement rules and traditions among there peers and then communicate that to the vets who will help set the tone for the upcoming season. All the strategy and philosophy will be drilled over and over. Pre-season to some a waste of games. But for many it's the only time you can try and find the time to get the coaches to take a look and just maybe a roster spot for you. For most it will be another season of trying to make an NFL roster. For the veterans they'll pace themselves up until the first game and then it starts. The season is only 16 games. Just 17 weeks. A little over 4 months to get it right. The Quarterbacks around the league have the microphone and spotlight turned on them week after week. While some NFL football fans are able to look deeper into the game watching the linemen are they able to open holes for a running game and give time for the QB to throw the ball. Watching the defense is about hits for most fans. They watch the sack leaders and those that can intercept the ball. The kicking game goes without notice, a punt, an extra point, a field goal. But when the game is on the line and you need a big kick that's when all eyes are on them. The skilled players trying to enforce there will on the other team. But after all is said and done it's about the W's. Winning takes care of a lot of questions and speculation. Win and everyone is fine. Lose and it's a long practice until the next game. God knows that when you end up like Detroit last season it can't be any fun getting ready for the next one. We'll see what they do this season. Who thought that the Dolphins winners of one game can make the playoffs the next season. One offseason and an entire roster for an NFL team can change not to mention the coaching staff. There is always the lead stories for a season. Favre play or retire? Viking or not? If he does or doesn't so what. Ochocinco didn't do squat last season except run his mouth. He'll continue to run his mouth good or bad. T.O. continues to catch 10tds a season. In Buffalo the AFC will get to see him every weekend. I'll say T.O. if healthy and playing every game will catch 10tds or more. Oh yeah and he'll find his way into the headlines for something unrelated to his job. Pittsburgh the defending champions. Arizona looking to make it's way back through the weak NFC west. Will the Steelers get back to back opportunities in the Super Bowl. Don't count Big Ben out. Will Kurt Warner be able to come back from hip surgery and help the Cardinals or will it be Matt Leinart time in Arizona. With all the talk leading into the season it's just fodder. But once the season starts and each game means a step toward the Super Bowl or away from it that's when I'll be in tune. The NFL is a chess match that is played out on the field. The more an NFL team can beat division opponents the better opportunity to make it to the playoffs. Remember they play 6 games against division opponents, 6 games against conference opponents, and finally 4 out of conference games. Lakers One Away From Goal
Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Lakers have one more game to win. They'll not wait for the return to the Staples Center in order to close the series out and win a championship. The time is now and on Sunday Kobe and his teammates will do everything possible to win the game. The only thing that we don't know is how willing is Orlando to let that happen. Will they fight the entire game? Will they start fast and then fade?
The evolution and maturation of players throughout a career and over the course of a season continues for everyone in the NBA. Reporters are already looking ahead for the Lakers wondering about Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza. Reporting on the status of players from the different teams. It's something the media does. It's something players and there agents will go through. But hold on. It's still a playoff left. Until the end of the season for the Magic and Lakers they'll not want to talk about that. Dwight Howard has taken a lot of flack. They've continued to say what's wrong with him. But Kareem gave him a hint on what he needs to work on. Pau Gasol has qualities that Dwight Howard will use and take away from this playoff. He's a dominate rebounder. But a work in progress in the offensive end. Credit Shaq for taking away his power game. Remember it's Shaq who use to bowl over people and score. But the rules changed because of his dominance. Howard would have used the same qualities as Shaq. Now he's got something to work on and ideas to put in this off-season. Magic fans must know that no matter how well Howard shoots free throws in practice all that matters is what he does during a game. As a Laker fan I've seen Kareem do well. But I've also watched Chamberlain and O'Neal who worked on it but wasn't ever that good. They'll knock down some, miss some. But you know as a team that's not what they are counted on to do for the team. Howard plays the style because of how the offense is run. He plays with everyone away from the basket on the offensive end. They've lived and died with the three ball. Howard isn't the only one who'll gain knowledge from this series. Especially when the Magic play in the East. I don't think many teams play defense like the Lakers and have that type of length and skill players. Odom, Bynum and Gasol. Houston and Denver played the Lakers inside. Utah tried to. But for Howard any regular team he's averaging 20-30 points a game. Mickeal Pietrus has defended Kobe well and done a nice job on the offensive end. But Stan Van Gundy will understand what he needs to do to make this team more versatile. Of course his brother who watches the games as a reporter will also offer some advice for him to think about for next season. If Orlando doesn't come back they've got another job next season by making it back again to the NBA finals. And they can get back again. We've seen players over the course of a playoff series step up. Pietrus, Ariza, Battier. The list is long. Even seen where an older vet like D-Fish can have an huge impact on a game. The game has always been about the stars, mixing in with role players and bench players, following the coaches advise along the way. This is all rolled into one goal to win an NBA championship. This season like most seasons the NBA is filled with the lead story, the Kobes', LeBrons'. But mixed in and just as important are all the other players that can make an impact during a game, play by play. While the league is about the stars and the media will continue to follow and write about everything they do and say. It's about the team. The coaches. The organization. Coming up with a plan that the players execute and find a way to win. The enjoyment for all of us is in the journey from building the team. From the, Oh my god I can't believe they got that player, to the what was he thinking, to advancing to the playoffs, to the finals, and ultimately winning the championship. All we can do as fans is sit back enjoy the show. To watch Kobe play unselfish I didn't think that would ever be a part of Kobes' game. To see Pau Gasol not only talk about redeeming himself but do it series after series and just maybe hoist a championship. His game reminds me of Tim Duncan. To see Derek Fisher struggle series after series and then knock down a game tying shot and then a backbreaking shot in overtime. To see Trevor Ariza out last season with injury rebound and grow over this season into a decent 3 point shooter that can slash to the basket and play defense. To see Lamar Odom play consistent on both ends of the court. There are remarkable players with a game to go. The only element left is one more victory. A game away from a lifetime of dreams and work. To watch Phil Jackson receive the NBA Championship for the 10th time in his career and surpass Red Auerbach would finally come true. To watch the Lakers players celebrate a season of expectation, dreams and goals finally realized. That's the whole journey from start to finish this season for the Lakers. That is only one victory away. For some this is only a dream, for others it soon will be reality. There is only one championship per season and this season it could be purple and gold. Monday, June 1. 2009LeBron Doesn't Know How to Lose
Everyone knows how to celebrate after a win. But everyone doesn't know how to lose. What LeBron James did after the Orlando series I couldn't believe my eyes. He walked off the court no handshake, no laughing, no throwing powder, no joking or smiling. Just a big spoiled King. A King is how you see yourself LeBron. But for me he's a spoiled brat. Didn't get his way and won't talk to anyone. Then say it's not what he does if he just got beat in a fight. Well men scrap in the MMA and I bet you they don't just run off and not talk and not have conversation after a loss.
This is the NBA and I guess that shows how much of a man LeBron James is. But to me it shows just how we can mix up priorities in life. James performs his job which is play basketball. He is the best player in the game. I know Kobe would take exception to that. But Kobe never was like that. I bet LeBron James would have threw away a silver medal had the USA lost in the Olympics. It just isn't a good thing to do. I think he felt ashamed. He can't stand up after the fight and say he and his team got beat. Where is the Class? Where is the sportsmanship? Do what is right. But your ego won't let you. Your not going to win a ring this season. But more than that you've done it for everyone to see. Not only will you be looked at differently by your peers. But fans and athletes in every sport at every level who respect your game know what kind of person you are. When the best single themselves out when they experience a set back or let down you run and hide and pick up your crown and sit on your throne and blame everyone else but yourself. Well all hail to King LeBron James. He says Michael did it against the Pistons. Michael didn't know how to lose either. He bet at golf and didn't want to pay. You want to play then you must pay. You want to be in the spotlight when everything is going well. But who steps up when everything goes wrong. Delonte West? Or does the coach come out and make excuses for you. Kings and royalty know that there subjects are beneath them. But learning how to be a man stand up after a 15 round fight bleeding and defeated shake the victors hand wish them well and tell the world how you feel is what the peasants do. Kings and nobility send in others to speak for them. Although this King doesn't even want to tell his subjects to deliver the message he uses e-mail. Huskies Bite the Gators
College softball this season has been nothing like the past. This year the field didn't narrow down from Pac-10 teams. It is the year of the SEC. But the Huskies don't want to hear any of that talk about SEC. They represent the Pac-10 and have one more game to win to take there first NCAA Division I Softball championship back to Washington.
They've been on the road for 23 days. They looked like a team that had one foot out and the door was ready to shut. Washington lost the first game against Georgia. Lawrie was beaten badly. She just didn't look like she matched all the hype around her pitching and the Bulldogs didn't believe it either. But Lawrie came back in the second game and at the conclusion of 2 games against Georgia which lasted almost 8 hours. Lawrie found herself in the second game and her team supported her. Stacey Nelson looked shaky against Alabama and then by the end of the game she sat looking perplexed. If it wasn't for Ali Gardiner and her grand slam we could have seen Bama instead of the Gators in the championship game. But Nelson got out of playing game two and I think she would have been better off if she could have pitched another game like Lawrie. Lawrie ended the night more tired, more innings but with a win and confidence. Nelson ended her night on a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 7th. She escaped with no confidence and doubt going into tonights game. It started out like a pitchers dual. But Lawrie ended the game with a 2 hit shutout and her, and her teammates put up 8 runs. While Nelson was pulled for the 2nd time and looked like she didn't have a clue what to do. Jessica Mendoza and John Kruk did an excellent job and a couple of things they said during yesterday and today's game come to mind after this blowout victory for the Huskies. Kruk was saying that when Florida looked like they wouldn't win against Alabama and was down 3 runs that the hitters from Florida all swing for the fences. He thought they need to take what is given to them and go with the pitches. Washington hitters do exactly that and tonight it worked and they will continue hitting like that tomorrow. Florida is unlikely to change the approach but swinging at bad pitches isn't characteristic of the Gators. Danielle Lawrie was able to fool them the entire game today but can she do that tomorrow. Florida is going to take the same approach as they did the entire season. But one thing is certain they can't have the mental lapses on defense. But the biggest concern for Florida is Stacy Nelson. Mendoza was saying that the Florida coach doesn't really like slap hitters and prefers his team to take a full cut and see where the ball ends up. But she said that he looked at all the teams that won championships and some of those teams didn't have homerun hitters but was able to manufacture runs. For Florida if you look at the two comments about the swinging for the fences and the ability to play what some call "small ball" you find that Florida is a swing for the fence team all season. How will the coach be able to get runners on and manufacture runs. The key is going to be how well Danielle Lawrie is pitching tomorrow. Forget today. It doesn't necessarily carry over to the next game. But will Florida hitters begin to press because if they don't win the Huskies would claim the National Championship. For Washington they are a team that is hitting Stacy Nelson like an SEC team that has seen her a lot. What does Stacy Nelson do tomorrow? Can she find the right pitches to throw and can she physically and consistently pitch like she's done all season. The problem is she's not been hittable for almost the entire season and then in the last couple of days she finds herself sitting in the dugout with the rally helmet on. Tomorrow which Danielle Lawrie will be in the circle? Florida didn't do anything they didn't do all season. It was just that the pitches she threw broke so late and fooled the entire Florida team. Not one player had a clue and the two hits off of her was because freshmen got to hit and they just saw the ball where they wanted it and swung the bat. Florida keys to victory. Don't help the Huskies win by making bad defensive plays, by swinging at pitches that aren't strikes. Swing the bat but don't try and be a hero. I think for most of them like golf you've got to keep your head and eyes on the ball and just hit the ball wherever it goes. They swing so hard I don't think any of them know what they've just done. Today it looked like they closed their eyes and hoped the ball would hit the bat. For Nelson she's got to get command of her pitches, not overthrow, remain focused on the mitt and make her pitch. She has so much muscle memory if you told her right now to hit the catchers glove with the different pitches she could do it more times than not. The problem is all the stress and pressure you put on yourself and carry it out to the mound with her. She can't afford to do that tomorrow. Washington keys to victory. Keep the same approach at the plate. Nelson is going to come hard. Maybe she comes too hard. Continue playing solid defense and support Danielle Lawrie. For Lawrie she needs to bottle up what she was doing today and take it with her tomorrow the same approach. her catcher calls the game. They know the hitters for Florida and they've got to execute it. For me I hope Florida wins. So that I can see one more game between these two teams. Too bad Georgia and Alabama are gone. Great character, support and attitude, playing hard and doing everything they can to win. But not at the expense of their teammates. I noticed a few things during this telecast 1. Michele Smith was used the best way as a technical, teacher and at certain points of the game. That way she can't interrupt the flow of the game by having so long comments after each play or pitch or out. 2. Kruk said when Sallie stopped on second and she looked at her coach. Kruk said she should ignore her and do what she wants to. No comment by any female. The reason it sounded out of place. Kruk is a man, a baseball player. But women don't try and say screw the coach at third just run when you want to. Kruk if you didn't get it I'll explain this to you. One it's College you try and run your own way, and do things your not told to do in College as a freshman you might not get another opportunity to play again on the team. Second women don't need to be selfish on a championship type team. They're not going to say screw the coach I'll do what I want to. Third it's not major league baseball and there not men. They're going to listen and do what they're told. Kruk by the way she did eventually score anyways. 3. Kruk said for Florida and Stacy Nelson shouldn't say they want to win this for the SEC just do it for yourself. Again Kruk being a male screw everyone and do what I want when I want to. Women don't work like that. 4. Kruk however has been absolutely a great addition to the team he gives a major league perspective and he's funny, has a sense of humor. But he's just being himself. The difference between this and other sports is that these girls compete hard. They sing dance and display emotion. They support each other. But they don't get angry and throw tantrums. In general they all try and be student athletes that participate to there fullest capabilities. It was funny when Mendoza said Lawrie would have never been in this position and probably couldn't pitch as long as she did if she didn't play for Team Canada. Lawrie sat, she wasn't the starter, didn't play much. But she learned that she was a horrible teammate. She also learned that for her to become better she needed to be in better shape. So she comes back to Washington better prepared to be a teammate and not the star, be prepared mentally because of sitting and empathy for those who have to sit also, better prepared physically so she can compete longer and be stronger. Great season. Fun to watch the excitement, the joy, the tears, just an all around great event. Unlike spoiled every other person on a team. The team doing well but in fighting between groups of players and even coaches but no one knows because they are winning. Let those teams lose. Throwing tantrums, busting bats. Throwing helmets. Breaking clip boards. This to me is unacceptable. And there are a whole lot of sports that just seem to have too much of this me, myself and I. But I guess the people who do this sells tickets, newpapers and gets paid a lot of money. Sunday, May 31. 2009NCAA Softball Championship Series
It is the two best teams in the championship Washington survives against Georgia. Laurie came back and blasted a grand slam to open the game. Georgia looked to rally and did in the 3rd. But too much Washington. The Huskies take the final spot and Georgia was the most exciting team with powerful hitters 1-9. It was the pitching that looked like they ran out of gas. But they didn't quit and would never do that.
The Bulldogs a young team will end up a regular in the WCWS. The same could be said for the Alabama Crimson Tide a different approach for them. But they didn't give up and had a lead going into the last inning 5-2. But the couldn't shut the door and Florida behind the game winning grand slam homerun from Ali Gardiner enter the championship game. Now it's the best pitchers all year. Laurie for UW and Nelson for the Gators. The first to win 2 games takes the championship. Whoever it is that wins will claim there first NCAA Division I Softball title. But anyone who saw any part of this WCWS will never forget Alabama and Georgia and how they competed until the end. The same can't be said for many of the Pac-10 teams that didn't have any pop at the plate. The pitching wasn't much better. But don't count out the teams from the Pac-10. Don't forget Washington will represent the Pac-10 a member from this conference has consistently won the title. Washington just happens to be trying for their first. The SEC as a conference hasn't won one yet. Florida could be the first to do it against a Pac-10 team. Maybe the Pac-10 teams will have to contend with the SEC in softball. And if Florida doesn't do it this season don't worry SEC fans one year the SEC will get it's first title and it won't be the last. Bama, Georgia and Florida seem like they'll try and get to the championship series every year. 3-2 Count, 2 Outs, Bases Loaded
and Laurie walks Hesson to lose the game. Laurie needed to throw a strike. Ump wasn't giving the corner on the curve. She liked that pitch. Laurie gives up 8 runs but only gave up the winning run the next 4 innings. But the main key for the Georgia win was Arevalo the pitcher. 7 games pitched the entire season and she comes in and gives a great performance.
Georgia survives against Washington and will play one more time. The next game is the one that eliminates the loser and the winner will punch there ticket to the final. Michele Smith FOS
The entire game Michele Smith was knocking on players not being aggressive. She just made a comment that she would tell the runner on second to be aggressive until the runner was thrown out at the plate. Smith then pulls back on the aggressive because you see the result. You just told your runner to be aggressive and then you say oh no not then because your out. Hell Smith I've got a song for you it goes like this....Shut the fuck up and let them play....Smith... Shut the fuck up and let them play.
Oh by the way don't get me wrong Michele Smith has what 20 years or so of playing softball. A professional named 2 or 3 years straight player of the year as of 2008. But her microphone skills about how to color comment on a softball game is Full of Stress. She stresses over and over what she would do. Yeah right. Until the game changes and just like the play at the plate instead living with her aggressive call. She says oh no not in that situation. But she forgot she just said she would tell her runner on second to be aggressive. Michelle Smith Kills the Action
You'd be, I'd be, I'm the 16year veteran in Japan. Blah blah. Tired of her giving the most redundant information. Smith said she would play her infield to turn a double play, Niki Williams ties the game 8 to 8 with a Homerun blast. Smith talks so much she sometimes losses what she is going to say. Now Hamilton is gone and Schlopy will have to hold Washington and the Georgia offense does have enough punch to continue scoring runs. Smith isn't playing. She isn't a coach. What is on the field is. When a batter gets a hit she says look at the extension and no hesitation. Duh. She just hit the ball out of the park Smith. Someone please get a muzzle and give it to Smith.
It's excellent exciting softball with players who are in college. She's commenting on the game negatively. Shut up Smith, just Shut up. She second guesses everything that happens. That's not adding to the game. It takes away big time from just enjoying the action of the players. She says Laurie expects more of herself. It's not that she expects it. She has to do it. Smith shut up where is the remote I'll just hit mute. Too bad you can't just mute out the one you don't want to hear. Player singles Smith says she would have made a double. Michelle Smith must be the best softball player ever. Just kick back and enjoy the game but we can never do that if Michelle Smith keeps on knocking down players every move. I would of, could of, should of. Smith your not playing anymore in College. Stick to giving credit that's due. Learn how to be positive and add to the excitement don't sit there and criticize everything everyone is doing. Georgia Bulldogs
are just that. Bulldog. Never say die. Always swinging at good pitches. They collectively are at the peak of the season. They have hitters that only hit a few home runs killing the ball. This is against the National Players of the Year. Laurie is being pummelled by Georgia. It's now 8 to 4 with 3 at bats left for Washington. Of course if Washington losses this game. They'll play another one to decide who goes to the final on Monday. But who does Washington have that can pitch the 2nd game? If they go back to Laurie I think she gets pummelled even worse. The hitters on Georgia are the only team that has success against Laurie the entire season. Now she's at a loss her comfort zone is gone. She gave up 8 runs and it isn't even close to being the end of the game. And when you ride one pitcher the entire season it doesn't seem like good strategy. Even in basketball just ask LeBron James riding one player can prove costly over a long series of games. But Georgia has done the job so far. Give credit to the coaching staff to prepare all the players to be able to hit the ball like they do. But give the Bulldogs credit for having the reaction to hit good pitches.
Softball use to be a game where coaches would have practically everyone behind someone who gets a hit bunt. And then try and score a few runs hoping to win the game 3-1. 2-1. No more of that against Georgia they scored 14 against Arizona. They have 8 against Washington and who knows how many more runs they'll put up in this game. It's unreal that Georgia can't beat Florida. Maybe when it's all said and done they finally figure out how to beat Nelson and Florida. But there is the rest of the first game to finish to stay alive and another to win after if the Bulldogs even get an opportunity to face the Gators.
